Golden State Valkyries Battle, But Cold Shooting and Collier’s Brilliance Doom Comeback Bid

In a thrilling matchup, the Minnesota Lynx vs Valkyries game showcased intense competition. For the second straight game, the Golden State Valkyries had the giants on the ropes — and again, they walked away with a stinging lesson instead of a signature win.

On Sunday night at Chase Center, the expansion Valkyries matched the undefeated Minnesota Lynx step for step in the first half. Kate Martin lit the fuse with a career-high 14 points — all in a firecracker second quarter — and the building was buzzing. We went into halftime up one on the defending WNBA runners-up. The dream was alive in the Minnesota Lynx vs Valkyries clash.

But then? Ice cold.

Golden State managed just eight points in the third quarter, shooting a brutal 26.6% in the second half. It wasn’t turnovers this time — like it was in the Liberty game. It was missed looks, defensive breakdowns, and a Lynx team that made us pay every time we gave them daylight.

Courtney Williams drained a triple just three minutes into the third quarter to kickstart a 27-5 Minnesota run. From there, it was academic. Napheesa Collier played like a league MVP — 24 points, 11 rebounds, and complete command. Williams wasn’t far behind: 20 points, 5 boards, 5 dimes. Kayla McBride and Bridget Carleton combined for 28 more. Lynx shot 42.3% from beyond the arc during their performance against the Valkyries.

Meanwhile, the Valkyries couldn’t buy a bucket. We went 9-for-34 from deep, good for just 26.5%. And yet… Chase Center was rocking. For the third straight game, we packed the house: 18,064 strong. That’s WNBA history. That’s Bay Area pride.

Veronica Burton gave us life — 21 points, 3 threes, and a fearless mindset. Kate Martin? All heart. And Kayla Thornton kept scrapping, finishing with 11. This team might be 2-4, but they’re not backing down from anyone in the Minnesota Lynx vs Valkyries series.

We’re building something. We’re learning, fast. And even in a loss, the Chase crowd? Unmatched. Loud. Loyal. Golden.
