Valkyries Eye Historic Playoff Berth as WNBA Regular Season Winds Down

With just 16 days left in the 2025 WNBA regular season, the WNBA playoff race 2025 is starting to crystallize — and the Golden State Valkyries are right in the middle of it.

Two teams have already locked in postseason spots (Minnesota and Atlanta). Three others are out. The rest? It’s a battle royale for the last three playoff tickets.

Where Golden State Stands

If the postseason started today, the Valkyries (19–18) would hold the No. 7 seed, joining Seattle and Indiana as the final three teams in. The Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics remain on the outside looking in.

That’s not just a good story — it’s history in the making. Golden State has already set a WNBA expansion record with 18 wins in their inaugural campaign. Now, they’re pushing to become the first expansion team ever to make the playoffs in Year 1.

Playing Through Adversity

The run hasn’t been easy. The Valks lost All-Star Kayla Thornton (knee) for the season and have battled a revolving door of injuries to key contributors. Yet they’ve kept grinding, powered by sellout crowds at Chase Center in San Francisco, where the franchise has already led the league in average attendance.

Over the next two weeks, Golden State will play five straight at home, giving Bay Area fans a massive chance to tilt the playoff race in their favor.

Burton Leading the Charge 💜⚔️

No player has embodied the Valkyries’ resilience more than Veronica Burton. Once a reserve in Dallas and Connecticut, Burton has blossomed into the heart of Valhalla. She’s putting together a Most Improved Player–caliber season, leading the team in scoring, assists, and steals since Thornton’s injury.

Her recent stretch:

  • 24 points, 14 assists, 0 turnovers vs. Washington
  • 24+ points in 3 of the last 6 games
  • Relentless two-way pressure that has kept Golden State’s playoff hopes alive

If the Valkyries are going to finish the climb, Burton’s playmaking and leadership will be the engine.

History Awaits

The Bay’s newest franchise is on the verge of something unprecedented — turning an expansion season into a playoff run. With Chase Center sold out night after night, the Valkyries aren’t just playing for wins. They’re playing for history.

💜⚔️ Valhalla believes. The playoffs are within reach.
